BIOGRAPHY

...Whether as part of a horn section, playing beautiful soaring melodies or rip-roaring solos, Luke's musicality and personality always shine through...

Growing up in leafy North Hertfordshire, Luke's first experience of professional gigging was at the age of 16 when he joined his first 'proper' band. Luke was the youngest in the band but, as soon as he passed his driving test was doing regular gigs at local pubs, clubs and weddings. His passion for music and performing only grew, as did his collection of woodwind instruments! He now lives in bustling North London as an in demand musician for tours, live gigs, recording sessions and teaching.

Performing highlights include performances with Tom Grennan (supporting Stereophonics), Molotov Jukebox, award winning swing band Down For The Count, Hackney Colliery Band (described by BBC Radio 2 as "One of the greatest live bands we have in this country"), and 'The Billy Joel Songbook' with Elio Pace which included a tour with David Brown (Billy Joel's lead guitarist 1978-1991). Luke has recorded saxophone for DJ Swift (So Solid Crew) and played for an (unsuccessful) world record attempt for the largest Hokey-Cokey,

Notable gigs include Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club

Buckingham Palace, Vortex Jazz Club, Spice of Life,

Electric Ballroom Brixton, Union Chapel, The Stables Wavendon, Sage Gateshead, regular gigs at The Ivy Club in Soho, as well as appearances on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio London. Luke can be found regularly playing jazz gigs, doing pit work in theatre shows, or gigging with function bands across the country.

Luke studied BA Jazz at Middlesex University where he was taught by some of UK's top jazz musicians including Rob Townsend, Nikki Iles, Stuart Hall and Chris Batchelor. Since graduating, Luke has taken master classes with flute virtuoso Jose Zalba-Smith, and former saxophonist of Buena Vista Social Club, Irakere and Cubanismo; Javier Zalba.

Teaching is an important part of Luke's career and he teaches woodwind around London and leads community music projects. Luke founded Camden Saxophone Band in 2016 (an amateur saxophone ensemble with around 12 members) and is co-director of Camden Light Orchestra (a 70 piece community band with the ethos 'any age, any instrument, any ability').

Previously, Luke was Course Director for Harpenden Musicale's annual summer music school in Cambridge (2012-17), guest saxophone tutor for National Children's Wind Orchestra (2014), and Musical Director for Hillingdon Jazz Orchestra and Hillingdon Youth Big Band (2012 -17). Luke is recognised as an 'Advanced Practitioner' by Hillingdon Music Services.
